Tray Chaney of HBO's "The Wire" made a surprise visit to Green Valley Academy to the delight of students and staff. Tray answered the call to "reach others through joint objectives which is the focus of the organization ROJA led by President Janice Euell. Green Valley Academy has partnered with ROJA (Reaching Other through Joint Objectives) to provide empowerment training to the school's eighth graders. ROJA will provide additional instruction to the schools eight graders in anger management, conflict resolution, self-esteem and confidence building, setting goals and establishing priorities. On January 23 at 10:00 a.m. ROJA assembly was held and Tray Chaney spoke to these young people encouraging them with his own school days story as a former Andrew Jackson Middle student and Forestville High School graduate. Tray admitted to succumbing to negative peer pressure which led to bad decision-making but was turned around by the love of his parents and by coming to his senses after tragedy. He implored young people to develop positive social habits, respect themselves and others(especially older ones), and improve their quality of life by staying focused on their education which leads to success. Principal Gordon Libby escorted him throughout the school stopping in classrooms to give a brief "motivational pep talk" to other Green Valley Academy students.
